The United States of America produces a very large amount of the world’s solar energy. By rank, it is the world’s sixth largest solar producer. But because the United States has such a large area, and each state has such different climate, topography, and politics from each other, some states produce significantly more solar power than others. We put together this helpful infographic detailing the top ten states by megawatts.

For each state, the infographic lists that state’s average annual solar production by megawatt, as well as the number of homes that that much energy could power, the number of individual solar companies currently operating in that state and the total number of workers those companies employ. In addition, the infographic provides one or two pieces of interesting information for each state. This information often includes the amount of money invested into solar energy in that state, how that state’s abundance of solar energy has changed its electricity prices, and how much that state’s solar industry has grown in the most recent year or two.
